Abstracts:
Master Thesis Abstarct:

The main goal of this thesis is to find an appropriate pattern for co-ordination and integration of information systems in an educational and academic enterprise. The research was organized in three domains.

The first domain concentrates on general aspects of integration such as the definition, purpose and methods by exploiting Descriptive and Binomial Hypothesis Test Methods. The principal aim is to answer questions such as: What is integration? What are the main components of conceptual models? What are the advantages and benefits of such models? What are the affecting environmental factors?

We determine the conceptual components by means of identifying existing conceptual variables in the integration structure, designing a questionnaire for their evaluation, gathering fifty instances and analyzing data using Factor Analysis of Variables and Covariance Matrix Analysis Method.

In the second domain, we aim at addressing the question of practical suitability of integration models for an educational and academic institute.

In the first step, we prioritize the patterns with seven criteria using AHP. These patterns, based on priority, include: Service-oriented Integration, Portal-oriented Integration, Information-oriented Integration (Real-Time), Process-oriented Integration and Data Warehousing.

The second step deals with the patterns using six criteria employing AHP method. These patterns in order of priority are: Service-Oriented Portal, Information-Oriented Portal, Service-Oriented Integration, and Information-Oriented Integration (Real-Time and Data Warehousing).

In the third domain, we have conducted a case study on integration of information systems at the University of Tehran. The focus is on determination of the characteristics of proper (suitable) system status to reach a certain degree of integration, based on the existing state of information systems, grand strategies in the field of information technology and public policies of the university. The final outcome of this research is a high-level logical architecture for information systems. This logical architecture can be used as a framework for integration. In addition, this framework enables us to determine appropriate large-scale projects and facilitates decision-making in the field of information technology and information systems for the University of Tehran.
