Signing of a memorandum of understanding and cooperation agreement between College of Engineering and Golrang Company

According to the College of Engineering's Public Relations Office, this memorandum of understanding and cooperation agreement was signed on June 6, 2026, by Dr. Mehdi Ghasemieh, Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Tehran, and Engineer Alireza Kianpour, CEO and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Golrang System Company.

In the signing session for this memorandum of understanding, both parties discussed and exchanged views on areas of cooperation between the College of Engineering at the University of Tehran and the Golrang Group of Companies.

Dr. Mehdi Ghasemiyeh, Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Tehran, spoke about the importance of signing this agreement, saying: "In contracts that universities enter into with industry, especially with the private sector, the issues and problems of industries are resolved using the scientific capacity of universities. On the other hand, professors and students, especially graduate students, can closely identify the issues and problems of industries and help solve them. This is a method that is very common in Western countries, where industry problems are solved through direct collaboration between academia and industry."

Referring to the existence of the Office of Community and Industry Relations at the university, he said, “Despite this office at the university, industries, especially state-owned ones, were not very inclined to cooperate with the university, and most of these industries have established their own research and development offices. However, in the private sector, due to the lack of this department (R&D), this type of collaboration and the signing of memorandums of understanding and contracts helps them utilize the scientific capabilities of universities to solve their problems.”

He described Golrang Company's willingness to utilize the artificial intelligence capacities of the College of Engineering as very astute, saying, “The Faculty of Engineering, particularly the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has excellent capacity in the field of artificial intelligence that can solve the problems and issues of this large holding company.”

Dr. Ghasemieh also, referring to the diversity of fields within the College of Engineering, stated, “In addition to artificial intelligence, the College of Engineering are prepared to collaborate with this company in other areas as well to solve Golrang Company's problems.”

The head of the College of Engineering expressed hope that the signing of this memorandum of understanding and contract would benefit the country as well as both parties.

Dr. Babak Nadjar Araabi, the Dean of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the College of Engineering, also described the private sector's presence and cooperation with the university at this stage as significant, saying, “While foreign investment is limited at the current stage, the presence of a private company and attracting capital for research projects is important.”

Referring to the College of Engineering capacity in various fields and the scope of Golrang Holding's activities, he added, “The College of Engineering is ready to cooperate with Golrang Company not only in the field of artificial intelligence but also in other areas, including distribution, logistics, and energy.”

He added, “This collaboration is a good start, and we believe that this type of cooperation with the private sector, alongside government support, can be the solution to many of the country's major problems.”

Dr. Mahmoud Reza Hashemi, a faculty member at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, also stated that the purpose of signing this contract is to solve real-world industrial problems, saying, "This collaboration helps to identify the issues of this industry, the university and industry will collaborate to provide solutions for these problems. A key requirement of this contract is the presence of a company representative at the university, who will both oversee the project's progress and, if necessary, adjust the execution plan to align with the industry's needs. This ensures a very close relationship between the project manager and the client. In fact, defining the problem, solving it, and sustaining the problem-solving process are all objectives of this collaboration."

According to Dr. Hashemi, this contract is defined in a specific area (developing an artificial intelligence ecosystem for Golrang Company), which, after success and evaluation, can be expanded to other areas of Golrang Company's activities.

Engineer Alireza Kianpour, CEO and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Golrang System Company, also, while briefly introducing the Golrang Holding and its subsidiaries, expressed his pleasure with the collaboration with the University of Tehran, saying, “Given the scientific capacity of the University of Tehran and the areas of activity of the Golrang Holding, we can have bilateral collaborations in other fields, including energy.”

Referring to the launch of the Golrang Artificial Intelligence Ecosystem program within the Golrang Group, he said, “This contract and collaboration with the College of Engineering at the University of Tehran will be the main driving force behind this program, which can also lead to the expansion of artificial intelligence into Golrang's other industries.”

Engineer Kianpour, noting that some activities in the Golrang Group are still performed manually and mechanically, said, “Leveraging the potential of artificial intelligence, in addition to reducing costs, will also increase the company's profits and benefits.”

“Artificial Intelligence Research and Development”; “Training on Artificial Intelligence Technologies”; “Developing models and frameworks related to the assessment of AI technology maturity and readiness level,” “developing AI-related technologies for use in the employer's businesses,” and “consulting on AI technologies” are among the topics of the agreement reached by the parties in the form of a cooperation memorandum of understanding between Golrang System Company and the College of Engineering of the University of Tehran.

It should be noted that this agreement has been drafted and will be implemented within the framework of the “Investing Faculty” approach, which has been executed for several years at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering to effectively connect with industry.

“Enhancing research and educational capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence”; “Facilitating the development of interdisciplinary and innovative projects, including AI platforms and large language models”; “Discovering, recruiting, and supporting students and researchers to access necessary technical resources”; and “Creating a bridge between academia, industry, and tech companies” are among the objectives of this memorandum of understanding.

At the signing ceremony for this memorandum of understanding, Dr. Reza Naderi Mohammadi, Vice President for Research of the College of Engineering; Dr. Najdar Araabi, Dean of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering; Dr. Mahmoud Reza Hashemi, a faculty member of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering; Engineer Ali Sabetian, Vice President for Digital Business Development at Golrang; and Engineer Hamed Modab Shaghar, Manager of the Artificial Intelligence Division at Golrang, were also present.
