According to the Public Relations Office of the College of Engineering, alongside the publication of the 2026 Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects and the University of Tehran’s Mining Engineering program ranking in the 76–100 range worldwide, the discipline has been designated a “National Priority Field” under a resolution adopted by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, the National Elites Foundation, and the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology. Applicants ranked among the top 200 nationwide and national student Olympiad medalists who are admitted to the program are eligible for a range of support measures extending through doctoral studies, including monthly financial assistance, military service-related benefits, and pathways to academic faculty positions.

This achievement comes at a time when the mining and mineral industries play a strategic role in economic resilience and in diversifying the national economy beyond oil. These industries are essential to completing value chains, extracting rare and strategic elements, and implementing major infrastructure projects.

Under a joint resolution of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, the National Elites Foundation, and the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology, as listed on pages 11 and 12 of the official guide to selecting university majors for the 2026 National University Entrance Examination, Mining Engineering has been included among the country’s National Priority Fields.

Applicants who achieve a nationwide rank between 1 and 200 or win medals in national student Olympiads, and who select and gain admission to this field, are eligible for the following support measures:

  • Admission to higher degree programs without an entrance examination under the outstanding-talent scheme, extending through the Ph.D. level.

  • Monthly financial support equivalent to at least the minimum wage established by the Supreme Labor Council, provided throughout the period of study in return for scientific activities.

  • Specialized military service arrangements under the Shahid Sayad Shirazi Plan.

  • Postdoctoral research opportunities under the Shahid Dr. Chamran Plan.

  • Academic faculty recruitment opportunities under the Kazemi-Ashtiani Plan.

  • Supplementary health insurance coverage and financial assistance for research visits and study opportunities.

These benefits are provided in addition to the special scholarship for outstanding students, which, under a resolution of the University of Tehran’s Board of Directors, is awarded to applicants who achieve nationwide entrance examination ranks below 100.
